Ya know, like Dickensian or Shakesperian? Vonnegutian just sounds like some sort of gastro-intestinal problem. I'm trying to steer clear of "Vonnegut-esque."
Yes, I agree. You should not use 'Vonnegutian' because then that turns the 't' in his name into a "sh" sound and that changes everything. I think ' in the style of Kurt Vonnegut' is your best bet.

you could pronounce it as "vonnugut-ian" but kind of makes the gut part sound more "GUT" ish.
in general, i think you could get away with anything if you put the appropriate pause in before you say it.
