Do Cats Sweat?
I've never really thought about it. I know that dogs pant, but I've never thought about how my feline friends cool themselves. There's gotta be somethin (insert bad pun about "one cool cat" here). Moments ago, I let Stinker in from the 100 degree porch (which he insisted on playing on for two hours), and he smelled. Sweaty! Anybody know the ins and outs of cat sweat?

Wife of DCeiver says that cats do not sweat. Like dogs, they pant, but the typical body temperature of a domestic cat is about 103 degrees, so it's not often that you'll see them panting. One of our cats panted once, but it was in an un-airconditioned U-Haul. Cats are happy when it's hot. It's the cold they hate.
I'm happy see that you asked this, because I learned some new useless (apparently now useful) information about a month ago. Dogs' primary heat exchange units are their paws and tongue. Cats' primary heat exchange units are their ear flaps (I was shocked too) and their paws. That explains why their ears are always nice and warm.
Apparently TLC lied. According to http://www.healthypets.com/petcool.html cats only exchange heat through paws. Perhaps the website is using outdated information or has not incorporated new research data. =)
Cats sweat through their paws, they ecahnge heat through there as well...i should know, my cats paws are sweaty during a thunderstorm xD
