My Kingdom for a Time Machine and a Tuition Check

As though fall weather, football, and listening to "Nicole's Song" weren't enough to make me wish I were a dewey-eyed first year all over again. I just read a post on Whedonesque about UNCG's Women's and Gender Studies' course on "Why Buffy Still Matters." Can I please, pretty please, go back to undergrad?

(Buffy course + discussion with Catherine about this Veronica Mars fashion blog and my recent jacket purchase = buffy/fashion --> next topic)

Remember back in the fall of '99, when Charlottesville cable didn't carry the WB, and my mom sent me VHS tapes of each week's Buffy episodes (best mom ever), and in the season premier (first day of college) she wore the Betsy Johnson cherry dress I'd obsessed over and gotten that summer? Yeah, that was great.

I just saw that in the newspaper here, actually, and was going to email it to you. Its open to the public and I had thought about going, but driving 30 minutes to Greensboro seemed too arduous of a task....

My fall memories include:

--Channel 29 News! Best newscast ever!
--alumni wearing orange blazers gettin' TIPSY in tents!
--wondering about that snappy snack shack in the basement of Bonnycastle. Whoever ate there??
--Phi Mu: The Queens of Public Drunkeness
--watching Claudio Reyna back when he was leading soccer teams to championships.
--that beautiful moment between your fourth shot at St. Maartens and kick-off when everything gets like REAL CLEAR and REALLY REAL and you look up at your friends and say, "Florida State? We can TOTALLY TAKE THESE GUYS!!"
--being told that I was crazy by all my Republican friends every time I told them that the Iraq War was a failure because we didn't remove Saddam Hussein from power and that the likely result would be another war a decade later and more money spent and more people dead, and, BY THE WAY, I'm still waiting for those MFers to line up to kiss my ass--and I mean REALLY kiss it...give it LOTS of SWEET LOVE AND ATTENTION.

Fun fact: UNC-Greensboro is the only college to ever reject me.

Um, the Castle is awesome. You really missed out on some awesome chicken fingers. I bet you would have gone more often if you lived in Kent, where the smell of bacon and fried chicken would waft into our windows at all hours. Also, Ben & Jerry's pints + Plus Dollars = the good life (and, like, 20 pounds, but whatever...).

Haha, Becky I knew you were going to defend The Castle! I fully expected a mention of sucking in your cheeks to "look hungry" so Sexy Ryan would use his extra plus dollars on you.

See, in all that time, I don't even really remember the Castle being OPEN. It kept, like, Iceland timezone hours or something. I lived in Dunnington, so's I got my sketchy nachos at the Tree House, which used to be called the Glass Hat, and is now The Gone, from what I hear.

Another fall memory I have is that O-Hill dinners that came after football games were, like, WORSTEVERSVILLE. Like they didn't even TRY to make something edible, and they offloaded the stale cereal and about-to-turn milk on us to boot. BratWORST covered in WORSTershire sauce. Bleagh.

It's no wonder I turned to drinking, and by "turned to drinking," I mean "continued drinking, but started using a funnel." And maybe that's why I can't remember the Castle ever being open.

I will say this: to this day, I wish I had Plus Dollars. Plus Dollars were teh awesome.
