This Week In Awesome DCist Stuff
Check out Val's SXSW wrap up and recommendations for hott hott bands she caught there that are playing DC soon.
Martin talked to a local musician whose songs have been featured on the Real World DC. Imagine that -- actual local impact!
Reminder: know your rights, bloggers. And, don't be a jerk, businesspeople.
Brandon comes through with another fantastic installment of Secret History. You guys have been reading these, right?
Oh and, I reviewed Spoon's Monday night show. Sommer let me keep this paragraph, which I'm pretty happy about:
I would be remiss if I didn't also note the thing that every single person in the audience was noticing during Deerhunter's set, and that is the unrelenting sex eyes bassist Josh Fauver was spraying all over the crowd. It was overpowering, and I'm pretty sure everyone in the first 10 rows got pregnant just by watching him perform. Men and women both. If that guy didn't get laid last night, I will eat my hat.I also interviewed Black Lips, which includes the following story, among other gems:
Jared: Well, the first time we came here, no one came to see us but when we got into town we parked in front of the Capitol and we all drank cough syrup and I think we --
Cole: We smoked weed too, right in front of the Capitol in our van.
Jared: We were robotrippin' really hard and I think we walked the entire mall seven times or something like that and we literally ran through every Smithsonian. I like that we can come here cause we were so broke on that first tour and I was 17 I think and we had no money. And it was cool to come here cause we could occupy our whole day because everything's free and you can see a lot and cough syrup -- I think we stole it, so that was free.
Cole: The other thing, maybe we were just tripping or something, but we were walking through the park and there was this bench kind of like where Forrest Gump sits, and there was a guy who was like the invisible man. He had a hat on, and sheets covering up his whole face, and a brief case. And I was like, "guys look it's the invisible man!" And the guy freaked out and chucked the brief case at me and ran off.
Oh, and check out the video Nestor got of Britt Daniel doing "Me and the Bean" solo at Monday's show:

Still shocked/depressed/pissed
I still love Skins overall, but jesus f**k was the twist at the end of last week's episode unnecessary... uncalled for... unreasonable... un-a lot of things. When Chris died it made sense. This was just fucking bananas. And GROSS. And rilly rilly sad.

GENIUS!
Songs that make really awesome starter songs for Genius playlists on my iPod: "Cryin" (TVOTR), "Bad Romance"
Song that makes a surprisingly LAME playlist: "Wig Wam Bam"
I went to the Florida Keys this weekend to visit my Gramma. We took a day trip to Key West. I ate key lime pie and a sloppy joe and went to Hemingway's house. You know what are fucking awesome? Polydactyl cats.

DCist Exposed is Tomorrow!
I am going to FL to visit my gramma for a couple of days, but everyone here in D.C. should be sure and visit Long View Gallery tomorrow (Saturday, March 6) for the opening of (4th?) annual DCist Exposed photography show. It's always incredibly fun and packed, but this year will be better than ever, thanks to a huge new location and lots of booze sponsors! So check it out! I will be jealous of you!

Couldn't be more proud to live in D.C. right now
Congratulations to all of the people who worked so hard to bring equality in marriage to ALL of the people of my city. And to all of the families that can finally have the full legal rights they deserve. If you'll excuse me, I've got more happy tears to shed at my desk while looking at slide shows like this one.
(Lots of great coverage at The Sexist, DC Agenda, the Post and of course, DCist)

If that didn't make you tear up, this will: World's most heroic dogs.
Sing it with me: The cub is not my son
Go DC! Go DC! Go DC!
Nepalese cursing festival. Rad. You monkey face.
Hahahahhahahahahhaha
The gospel according to GaGa. And Kelly Cutrone.
Hope you all had lovely weekends. I napped, finished the 4th (and, as I discovered NOT the last novel in the terrible Blue Bloods series. My god, please just end and tell me how they defeat the Silver Bloods already. I want my life back.), satisfied my unyielding craving for red meat with a delicious St. Ex burger (those buns will change your life) and the company of Kate, checked out a couple photo shows and visited Cork with Phoebe, went to a Bloomingdale party (kimchi, collaging, set, MGD tall boys and Ethiopian jazz. duh.), went out to brunch with Lana, did some drug store make up shopping, got my nails did, chanted "USA! USA! USA!" with lots of very VERY (if fleetingly) patriotic people at Duffy's during the hockey game, and made a new best bartender friend at DC9.
